Books; Are the old ones the best?

Writer: Leela DuttLeela Dutt

I still know people who've read Rubik's Cube five times since it came out in 1984.

It starts with a nuclear explosion - don't worry, that's only a film, and the rest of the novel deals with everyday conflicts - neighbours who persecute your children, the elderly woman next door who won't leave her house even for her husband's funeral, and hereditary tunnel vision which is going to turn the love interest blind.

Some characters are preoccupied with the protests of local Quakers outside a US nuclear missile base, others prefer to focus on being sensitive to the lives of the individuals they know.

Oh and there's a Quaker wedding near the end...
